Kashi Balloon and Boat Festival 2023: The year of 2023 has begun with a flush of festivals across India. From famous seasonal festivities to new local traditions, winters seems to bring a snowfall of colourful carnivals all across. In one such event, Uttar Pradesh’ vintage city, Kashi is all set ti host the second Hot Air Ballooning and Boat Racing Festival this January. A four day fest in Varanasi will begin from January 17.
This will be the second edition of the festival. The first one took place in 2021 when there 8 balloon pilots from abroad and 5 from India.
The three day long festival is ascribed to be a one-of-its kind event that is inclusive of boat racing, hot air ballooning and lots of fun in the way.
A 3km stretch from Dashashmedha Ghat to Raj Ghat has been mapped out for the race. The race route will cover, Mehta Ghat, Panch Ghat, Kashi Vishwanath Dham.
In the colorful boat race, 12 teams will be taking part to win- Gangaputra, Navik Sena, Kashi Lahiri, Jal Yodhas, Kashi Keepers, Ganga Lahiri, Nauka Riders, Jal Sena, Ganga Vahini, Bhagirathi Sevaks, Haumukh Giants and Ghat Keepers.
The state tourism department has roped in about 5 agencies from different countries to conduct the festival smoothly.
The hot air balloons will take off at Central Hindu Boys School, Ramnagar and the Banaras Hindu University (BHU) grounds. Last year the ticket price was designated at Rs 500 per person but for this year, the fare is yet to be determined.
