The Nilgiri are not only famous for their natural scenic beauty, but also for their annually held Ooty Summer Festival. It is an exquisite event organised with an aim to present the natural bounty of Ooty to travellers all across the world.

If you’ve been wanting to take a trip down south, now is the time for it. Featuring shows like the flower show, fruit show, rose show and vegetable show, this year the festival will mark its 123rd edition. Among all of them the flower show is the most exotic and will be held at the Botanical Garden in Ooty from May 17 to 21. The fruit show will be held at Sim’s Park in Coonoor on May 25 – 26. The spice show was held on the day the festival began (May 4) where a variety of special spices and different spice plantations were showcased.

Organised by the Tourism Department of Tamil Nadu, and the Ministry of Tourism and Culture of India, the various shows and exhibits began on May 4 and will go on till May 27. From dance, music to flowers and fruits, the summer festival highlights everything that defines the lifestyle and culture of Ooty. These are the ones to watch out for.

Flower Show

The highlight of this show are the flower sculptures, authentic floral craftsmanship and modern artistry, with an aim to encourage the young and upcoming artists. The Botanical Garden where the show is held looks like paradise on Earth, thanks to the colourful and vibrant atmosphere. Apparently, more than 15,000 flower pots of various varieties are added to the garden during the show.

Fruit Show

As the name suggests, all kinds of fruits are brought together under one roof, expressing art through them. This event is organized by the Horticulture Department and is relatively a newer addition to the summer festival.

Rose Show

Held every year at the Rose Garden in Ooty, about 30,000 rose plants are showcased in around 4,000 varieties. From towers made of thousands of roses to rangolis made with rose petals, this event is truly a wonder.
