Strung out along a ridge, with steep forested hillsides on all sides, Shimla is a traveller’s delight through and through. The awe-inspiring mountain tracts of the capital of Himachal has some of the most popular hill resorts and relics of its previous life as the summer capital of British India. Apart from cozying up in your resort, with a mug of coffee and some good company, you could actually step out for a rather different experience. This is the time when skiing and ice skating take off. The average temperature during this season is around 8°C and can easily go down to -2°C.
Shopping on the Mall Road during this time can turn out to be an experience of a lifetime. For the adventure junkie too visiting Shimla from November to February would a great idea because you’d get to taste the thrill of winter sports here. You could indulge in everything from ice-skating, skiing, to sledging. Another adventurous thing to do would be to climb up to the highest peak in the city – The Jakhoo Peak. Situated at an altitude of 8,000 feet, you wouldn’t imagine what it is to witness heavy snowfall here amidst the tall pine trees.
For the Bollywood buff, visiting Green Valley is a must. The spot has been used for shooting various bollywood movies because of its lush green natural bounties. Remember to carry your camera and make full use of the scenic location during snowfall.
The hill town of Naldehra, situated approximately 25 kilometers away from Shima, is also one of the best places to witness snowfall in Shimla. Home to the oldest 9 hole golf course in India, you could have a nice picnic here with your loved ones that will turn into one of your core memories from the snow land.
