The wait for the premium super-fast Tejas Express has been real. This train between Chennai and Madurai has been introduced keeping in mind the long pending demands of Tamil Nadu rail users.

While the first Tejas Express is being operated on the Mumbai-Goa route, the new variant has being designed specifically for Southern Railways. It has been made without compromising on luxury and comfort and comes with some really enhanced features.

The coaches of Tejas Express will be fully air-conditioned and will have a modern infotainment system, modular toilets, smart windows, as well as GPS-based passenger information system. The ultra-modern train was built at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF) in Chennai, making it the first for the state of Tamil Nadu.

The new train will have 23 swanky chair cars and executive class coaches; all of them are fitted with airplane-like LED lights, fibre reinforced plastic (FRP) interior panels, luxurious leather seats, motor-operated venetian blinds, automatic doors in the passenger area and sliding coach doors.

Though the Tejas trains are cleared for operation above 140 kmph, the Chennai – Madurai section has a track strength of only 90 to 110 kmph. And though over 80 percent of stretch between Chennai and Madurai is cleared for above 100 kmph, there are plans to strengthen the tracks to withstand the speed of 120 kmph in the section in due time.

Also, Tejas ticket fares for Chair Car is likely to cost between INR 1140 – 1200 and INR 2100-2200 for an Executive Class ticket. However, there may be discounts offered in the future for the benefit of the travellers.
