Auli is the most popular winter destination of Uttarakhand. Lying on the way to Badrinath, one of the Chota Char Dham pilgrimage sites, Auli offers a magnificent view of the Himalayan mountain range.

Adi Shankaracharya is said to have visited Auli in the 8th century. He created one of the four ‘peethas’ in Joshimath. Auli served as the training ground for the Indo-Tibitean Border Police which guards India’s border with Tibet.

Auli can be visited any time of the year. However, the best time to visit Auli is November to March especially for skiers. Summer months are also very pleasant.
