Kumbh Mela is the best time to witness Hindu rituals and culture in Haridwar. Organised once in 12 years, it witnesses the largest congregation of pilgrims in the world. According to mythology, when Gods and the demons fought for the pot of amrit (nectar of immortality) and four drops fell on earth. Kumbh Mela is held at the four places – Haridwar, Allahabad, Nashik and Ujjain — where the drops of amrit fell. Maha Kumbh Mela was last held in 2010. The next Ardh Mela, which is organised in every six years, will be held in 2016.
