The vibrant local bazaars are a good place to pick up Manipuri handicrafts and souvenirs. You will find small shops on either side of the streets, managed by tribal women, selling beautiful hand-woven shawls, skirts, vessels, and fabrics.
If you like to go traditional, do buy the Phanekthe, which is the traditional dress of the Manipuri Meitei tribe. Decorative items in ivory and cane are also worth a buy. A must buy are the beautifully charming and colourful Manipuri dolls and hand carved intricate jewelry. Visit the Manipur Handlooms & Handicrafts Development Corporation Ltd in Paona Bazar to get some good textiles and fabrics. The Moreh Market, three-hour journey from Imphal on the India-Myanmar border, is a good destination to buy imported goods as well as local products.
