Place Details:
Located in the heart of the Man Sagar lake is the magnificent Jal Mahal, one of Jaipur‘s prime tourist attractions. The palace appears to float on the waters of the lake, hence the name Jal Mahal (Water Palace). The lake was created in the 16th Century by constructing a dam to conserve water. The palace, built in 1799 by Maharaja Madho Singh I, was modeled on a similar palace, the Lake Palace located in Udaipur.

Located between the Amber fort and Jaipur, Jal Mahal is visited by a large number of tourists all year round. Feeding fish from the road across the lake is a favorite activity. The hills across the lake are dotted with forts and old temples which can be seen in the background of the palace. While boat rides to the palace were available a few years ago, they have now stopped making it a photos-only destination.
