Known as the economic capital of the state of Gujarat, Gandhidham became inhabited during the separation and displacement of the people of India from Sindh (now in Pakistan). The great Mahatma Gandhi’s ashes were immersed at the Kandla Creek near Gandhidham which is now home to his second samadhi. Kandla, the only free trade region of the country, is situated just 12 km from Gandhidham. Other important places of interest for tourists are Khavada, Bhardeshwar, and Purneshwar.
