Since the 1970s, when Ladakh opened its doors to tourists, the city has attracted visitors from all over the world with its blue waters, clear skies and snow capped mountains. However, there is more to the city than just its raw natural beauty. With the world's highest motorable road running in Ladakh, the city has many tourist attractions.
The Thiksey Monastery is the largest in the region is referred to as 'Mini Potala' as it resembles the Potala Palace of Tibet. With some rare and precious stupas, statues and thangkas, the monastery is one you must visit. The Takthok Monastery, Sumda Chun and the Matho Monastery among others, are other tourist favorites in the city.
