A low-key festival for the rest of the country, it assumes great importance in Mathura. It is celebrated to commemorate Radha’s birth anniversary. Radhashtami is observed 15 days post Janmashtami or Lord Krishna’s birthday. Radharani’s birthday is on the sacred eighth day of the Hindu month of Bhadrapada which falls between the months of August-September, according to the Gregorian calendar. Devotees bathe in the sacred Radha Kund pond, which is open for public only on this day.
