Mumbai‘s Jehangir Art Gallery is one of the most famous and well known art galleries in the city. It is situated in Kala Ghoa in South Bombya’s Fort area. There are various iconic landmarks like the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, David Sassoon Library, Gateway of India,the National Gallery for Modern Arts and Asiatic Society surrounding the Jehangir Art Gallery.

Sir Cowasji Jehangir established this art gallery in 1952 and was inaugurated by the the Chief Minister of Bombay State. The gallery was established in memory of of Sir Cowasji Jehangir’s late son. Over the years, the art gallery has grown and now proudly boasts of an auditorium, an exhibition gallery, the Hirji Jehangir Gallery and the newest Terrace Art gallery which was inaugurated in 2012.

There are annual exhibitions and the art gallery is one of the venues for the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival. Up until 2015, the Jehangir Art Gallery was also home to Cafe Samovar which went on to become one of the most iconic cafes in the city. However, it was shut down after a successful stint through five decades, only because of extension plans for the gallery.
