The Basilica of Our Lady of Mount, locally known as Mount Mary Church is located in western suburb of Mumbai, Bandra. It is believed that the church was built by the Portuguese who brought the statue of Virgin Mother Mary when they traveled to India. The chapel was built in the 16th century. However, in mid 18th century, the Marathas had attacked the chapel in 1738 and then it was fully rebuilt only by 1760.

The church is considered in high regard, not only among Catholics, but people belonging to several cultural and religious beliefs. Millions of people visit the church each year in order to thank the Blessed Mother Mary for all that she has. Some people believe that the statue has the power to fulfil wishes of those who honestly ask for something. The church is located on a hill in Bandra that overlooks the Arabian Sea and located a few kilometers away from the Bandra Fort. The church is also home to a relic that has a drop of blood of Pope John Paul II who had visited India in 1986.
The best time of the year to visit Mount Mary Church is during Christmas and on New Year’s Eve along with the Bandra Fair which marks the Feast of Nativity of Mary, Mother of Jesus. The feast, locally known as Bandra Fair, commences on September 8 each year and goes on for a week.
