Place Details:
Maratha Mandir is located at Mumbai Central. It is one of the most iconic Cinema Halls in India. Though at a glance, one may not find anything too amusing about the Maratha Mandir, it is a very important movie theatre with respect to Bollywood screenings. The theatre was built in 1958, it’s a single screen and can accommodate close to 1,000 people at a time. Maratha Mandir rose to popularity only after Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge was released. Usually movies run in theatres for anywhere between one to 10 weeks. However, what sets Maratha Mandir apart and makes it so special is the fact that it has been screening the same movie, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge for over 1,000 weeks since October 1995.
Though it may seem like one of the most cliched things to do in Mumbai, watching the movie in Maratha Mandir (with popcorn) is fun in the most unexpected ways. The movie theatre is a five to seven minute walk from the Mumbai Central Railway Station, the best way to travel to the theatre.
