Place Details:
Located at a distance of 20 km from Nainital, Kainchi Dham is popular among tourists as well as devotees. The term ‘kainchi’ is used for the place because of the two sharp hairpin bends on the road. Kainchi Dham is a beautiful ashram on the Nainital-Almora road offering a spiritual stopover in the lap of nature. This modern pilgrimage centre was established by Neem Karoli Baba, a saint of the early sixties. Along with Shri Poornanand of the Kainchi Village, Maharaj Neem Karoli built a temple dedicated to Hanuman. Adjacent to the Hanuman temple is the Kainchi temple and an ashram dedicated to Sadhu Premi Baba and Sombari Maharaj. Near the Kainchi temple, there is a cave where Baba Neem Karoli used to meditate and pray. The ashram has gained recognition owing to the visit by Apple founder and CEO, Steve Jobs, and Facebook Chairman, Mark Zuckerberg.
Kainchi Dham organizes meditation programs and spiritual camps that are attended by devotees from all around the world. People also attend a fair, which is organized every year on June 15. Over one lakh people are fed during the fair.
