Shaniwar Wada in Pune was the seat of the Peshwas at the height of Maratha empire. It is a testimony to the Maratha glory and valor. Its architectural design shows influences of Mughal style and features of Maratha artistic styles. The 21-feet tall entrance of the palace is known as Delhi Darwaza. It had palaces to house the Peshwas and their families. However, the palaces were destroyed in a big fire in 1827. Now only the fort walls remain.

Shaniwar Wada has been glorified by several movies including the recently released Bajirao Mastani. These days it is also a myth that the fort is haunted. Despite the rumors, Shaniwar Wada remains the most famous tourist attraction in Pune.
