Place Details:
Located in Parule village in Sindhudurg district, Nivati Beach is a secluded stretch of white sand caressing the Arabian Sea across the Konkan coast of Maharashtra. The beach is located near Vengurla and is the star attraction of the small Nivati village. With a few good resorts along the beach, this makes for a nice getaway from the rush and commotion of the city and other crowded beach destinations nearby, like Goa. The beach is a secluded cove where you have the peace and quiet to listen to the ocean waves and sounds of the beach, and nothing else. Protecting this beach is NIvati Fort, a sentinel-like presence along the shoreline that makes for a nice spot to explore when you want to move around the beach.
Another sight here is the Rampani fishing that takes place. This form of fishing is commonplace in the Konkan region, especially in the coast in and around Vengurla. Operated from the beach shore, the seine retrieve fishes like mackerel, ribbonfish and sardines from the waters. This is a seasonal fishing technique, though, and you can catch it for six months starting from August to January, during the monsoon and winter months. Nivali Fort’s rocks at the bottom and perennial springs are other great sights here at Nivati Beach. From the fort, you get a great view of nearby Bhogwe Beach as well. You can also catch dolphin droops near the beach. Plus, there are is a 5 km long stretch of backwaters along paddy fields and Nivati rock, a collection of three rocky islands around 10 nautical miles out in the sea.
