The United States has been witnessing winter storms across the Northeast.  This has caused great disruption to the travel routes of air about it. This is potentially because of the busy period post-Christmas event, which has prompted many flights to be cancelled and delayed. The weather services named the storm ‘Devin’, which brought heavy snow, ice, and hazardous conditions to hubs like New York City, Newark, and New Jersey.

Cause of flight cancellations

A severe winter storm named Devin has brought heavy snow and ice to the northeastern region of the United States. According to Reuters, the impact of the storm on runways and travel conditions has forced multiple airlines to delay and cancel their flights for the safety of passengers.

How many flights have been affected?

As of December 26, over 1500 flights were cancelled. In addition, several thousand flights were postponed across the country due to the effect of the storm.

Authorities’ advice for travellers

The National Weather Service warned that storm “will cause hazardous travel conditions for the Great Lakes into the northern Mid-Atlantic and southern New England today through Saturday morning.”
