Kanwar Yatra 2024: The Ghaziabad district administration has issued a notification in wake of the upcoming Kanwar Yatra, barring the setting up of Kanwar camps on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway. As per the notification issued Thursday, the Kanwariyas will not be permitted to use the Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE) stretch during the pilgrimage which begins on July 22, at the start of the ‘Sawan’ month.

Officials said four main roads which are used by hundreds of thousands of Kanwariyas while returning from Haridwar in Uttarakhand, have been identified and restrictions have been imposed to allow smooth passage of vehicular traffic during the annual Kanwar Yatra.

A report by Hindustan Times, citing district officials, said the Kanwariyas travel on motorcycles, cars, bicycles, truck, and some even on foot, during their return from Haridwar, prompting the Ghaziabad district administration to impose restrictions for around two weeks to allow smooth traffic flow as the pilgrims take the route back to Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh.
