No internet, no SMS service for 2 days in Bareilly due to Dussehra, Friday; forces maintain tight vigil

Internet service will be suspended from 3 pm on Thursday until 3 pm on Saturday, October 4.

New Delhi: Following the riots in Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh on September 26, the police administration is on alert. Vigilance has been further increased in view of Dussehra and the Friday prayers. Given the situation in the city, police from other districts have been detained until October 4. Internet service has been suspended in the district again on government orders. The order states that internet service will be suspended from 3 pm on Thursday until 3 pm on Saturday, October 4.

Internet shutdown, no SMSes

When news of the internet shutdown went viral on social media on Thursday, 02 October 2025, in the afternoon, people began sending copies of the order to each other. The second two-day internet shutdown caused panic among the public, who continued to inquire with their acquaintances. BSNL GM Pankaj Porwal stated that internet service has been suspended for two days on government orders. SMSes will also be blocked during this period. It should be noted that internet service was suspended in the district for two days following last Friday’s riots.

Situation is completely normal

The situation in the city is completely normal. The market is bustling with activity as usual. Security has been increased in view of Dussehra and the Friday prayers that follow. Police administration officers are constantly on patrol. Under the leadership of SP South Anshika Verma, the police force conducted a flag march in sensitive areas of the city on Thursday, 02 October 2025.

Veerangana Unit deployed

SP South stated that six teams of women’s QRTs have been deployed, along with the Veerangana Unit of the women’s Special Operations Group (SOG). Each team consists of 30-35 personnel. The QRTs are fully capable of handling all kinds of challenges. Crowd movements are being monitored from the control room. Wherever a crowd is seen gathering, an alert will be issued and the appropriate force will be deployed.
