New Delhi: Soon after reports claimed that Akhilesh Yadav has decided to contest the Uttar Pradesh Assembly election 2022, the Samajwadi Party chief addressed a presser and said that he will fight from Azamgarh if people want. “I will contest elections after taking permission from the Azamgarh people”, said Akhilesh. Earlier last year, the Samajwadi Party supremo, who is an SP MP from Azamgarh and regarded as the chief ministerial face of his party, had declared that he will not contest the coming UP Assembly elections himself.

When asked about Aparna Yadav’s decision to join the Bharatiya Janata Party, the SP chief said, “Firstly, I will congratulate her and I am happy that Samajwadi Party’s ideology is expanding. I and my father both tried to stop her but she had made her mind.”

For the unversed, Aparna Yadav, younger daughter-in-law of former Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav joined the BJP in New Delhi today, bringing a huge embarrassment to the Samajwadi Party ahead of crucial polls.

“I am always influenced by the Prime Minister and spoke about Swachh Bharat Mission or works done to empower women. For me nation is a priority and now started a journey on the path of nation-building,” Aparna said, expressing gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Adityanath for giving an opportunity to join the BJP.

It is learned that she is seeking a ticket from the Lucknow Cantt assembly seat, however, the BJP leadership has clarified that there is no pre-condition for joining.

Aparna, the wife of Mulayam Singh Yadav’s son Pratik Yadav, had unsuccessfully contested the 2017 polls against BJP Rita Bahuguna Joshi from Lucknow Cantt. BJP Lok Sabha member from Allahabad Joshi, meanwhile, offered to resign from parliament if the party is ready to give the ticket to her son Mayank Joshi in the upcoming Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls.

The Uttar Pradesh assembly polls will be held in seven phases in February-March starting from February 10. Counting of votes will be held on March 10.
