Bycott Indian products , India out these are the slogans you might hear from Bangladesh. But irrespective of helping Bangladesh in the crisis situation who are these people turning against India.
Although anti-India campaign in Bangladesh is not new.
Leaders of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party got help from influential people living outside the country to persuade citizens to choose products from places other than India.
Recently an incident happened in Bangladesh that might get you on your nerves.
Senior BNP leader Ruhul Kabir Rizvi threw away a shawl he was wearing around his shoulders. According to local media reports, the shawl he threw was a famous Kashmiri one. This triggered a war on social media where several other opposition leaders joined the trend and posted similar photos and videos with hashtags- #IndiaOut, #BoycottIndianProducts and others.
Commotion over the ‘Boycott India’ campaign grew online, similar to the ones that trended in the case of Maldives’s ‘India Out’. Dhaka markets, generally stocked with Indian products, were refused to take fresh deliveries. Indian products like cooking oil, processed foods, toiletries, cosmetics and clothing, saw a drop in sales.
Meanwhile Bangladesh prime minister Sheikh Hasina has hit out at the BNP whose leaders have called for a boycott of Indian products.
While addressing a meeting of her party Awami League, Hasina asked how many sarees do the wives of BNP leaders have, and why haven’t they set it on fire
It was not just the Indian Sari that Sheikh Hasina referred to. She sprinkled a handful of “Indian spices” in the pot too.
Hasina also qouted Garam masala, onions, garlic, ginger, all spices that come from India should not be seen in their BNP leaders homes
Those supporting the campaign have accused New Delhi of supporting Sheikh Hasina to stay on in power
