Bangladesh is in a major political crisis after Sheikh Hasina resigned as Prime Minister on August 5. She stepped down after weeks of student protests that threatened her safety. Known as the “Iron Lady,” Hasina left the country on short notice from the Army and arrived in India on August 5. It’s unclear if she will stay in Delhi or go elsewhere. Even after her resignation and departure, protests and destruction continue in Bangladesh. Army Chief General Waker-Us-Zaman announced the army’s takeover of the country. This situation has worried many global leaders, including the U.S. Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, who has called on the interim government to follow democratic principles and the rule of law.
