In Canada, a bold move has been unfolding recently. A critical issue is affecting many Indian student graduates in Canada where Hundreds of them are protesting against a new federal policy that could threaten their right to stay in the country. This policy change has sparked widespread concern and led to large demonstrations.
So what’s this policy all about, and why are these graduates protesting ? Lets Find out in this video…
The Canadian government recently introduced a new policy that has international student graduates, especially those from India, very worried. This policy changes how students move from studying to working in Canada. If they don’t meet certain requirements, they could face deportation.
In simple terms, if students can’t meet the new rules or get their work permits approved on time, they might have to leave Canada, even if they’ve already graduated and want to stay and work.
In addition, more than 70,000 international students across Canada have joined together to protest the new federal policy changes. Many of these students came to Canada hoping to start new lives, and now they are showing their frustration by taking to the streets.
Under the new changes announced by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government, there are now more restrictions on study permits. This has increased the risk of deportation for these students.
Well many who planned to apply for permanent residency after their studies are now facing big debts and shattered dreams, according to CityNews Toronto.
The situation has become critical because new provincial policies are cutting permanent residency nominations by 25%. This puts many students at a higher risk of being deported.
Meanwhile on Monday, the Canadian government announced it will cut back on the number of temporary foreign workers allowed in the country. This is a big change from the expansions made in 2022.
And the decision comes as Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s government deals with growing worries about the number of temporary residents.
The new changes will stop hiring low-wage temporary foreign workers in areas with an unemployment rate of 6% or more. Employers will also be limited to hiring just 10% of their workers as low-wage temporary foreign workers, and these workers’ permits will be cut from two years to one year.
So, what’s next? The protests are expected to keep going as students push for changes to the policy. Both the students and the government are trying to find a fair solution that works for everyone.
