Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently made a noteworthy statement about the relationship between India and China. In an interview with the US magazine Newsweek, he emphasized the importance of this relationship, highlighting that India and China need to address the ongoing border situation quickly. Modi expressed the urgency to resolve the border issues to improve their bilateral interactions and move past the current tensions. His statement has garnered attention due to its directness and the significance of India-China relations.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also mentioned in the interview that having stable and peaceful relations between India and China is crucial, not just for both countries but for the whole region and the world. He expressed hope and belief that by engaging in positive and constructive talks at both diplomatic and military levels, they can bring back peace and calmness to their borders.
On this remark finally Beijing said “sound and stable ties” serve the common interest of both countries.
Chinese spokesperson Mao Ning was asked about his reaction to the comments made by PM Modi at a press briefing, to which she said, “China noted Prime Minister Modi’s remarks.”
Mao said Sound and stable China-India relations serve the interests of both countries and are conducive to peace and development in the region and beyond. We hope that India will work with China, approach the bilateral relations from a strategic height and long-term perspective, keep building trust and engage in dialogue and cooperation, and seek to handle differences appropriately to put the relationship on a sound and stable track
India has consistently stated that normal relations with China cannot be restored until the border situation returns to normal. In simpler terms, India believes that the abnormal state of their borders needs to be addressed before things can go back to normal between the two countries.
PM Modi’s interview covers various topics about India’s growth in both domestic and foreign matters. Modi’s views are significant, especially during the election period, as they provide insights into India’s future direction. Development remains India’s top priority, requiring a favorable regional environment. Conflict with China could drain resources needed for development, so having stable relations with China is seen as a better choice for India, both geopolitically and economically.
