In the midst of ongoing conflict in the Middle East, tensions escalate as Iran issues a chilling warning to Israel.
In a comment by an Iranian official who is an adviser to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei Iran might change its nuclear plans if Israel keeps threatening its existence during the current conflict with Palestine. Iran has always said it doesn’t want to have nuclear weapons in its plans. But Western governments have thought for a while that Iran actually wants to get a nuclear bomb. However, Iran says its plans are peaceful, not about making bombs.
The adviser named, Kamal Kharrazi said, We have no decision to build a nuclear bomb, but should Iran’s existence be threatened, there will be no choice but to change our military doctrine.
Now the question is does Iran really has a nuclear bomb? Some people think Iran might already have five nuclear bombs, and they could have even more by May. Some experts said back in October that Iran could have enough stuff to make one bomb in just a week, and five bombs in six weeks. It’s been over five months since those guesses were made.
But why isn’t this big news? Well, Iran probably won’t admit they have a bomb until they have a bunch of them in different places. If they say they have just one bomb, the U.S. and Israel would try hard to find and destroy it. But if there are more bombs in more places, it’s much harder to find and destroy them all.
The Biden administration might have a big reason to keep quiet about an Iranian bomb. President Biden has promised many times that he won’t let Iran have a nuclear bomb while he’s in charge. Presidents before him, like Barack Obama and Donald Trump, said the same thing.
If the Biden administration admits Iran has a bomb, people would expect the president to do something about it. But what could he do?
Israel also promised not to let Iran get a bomb because if Iran has lots of nuclear bombs, it could mean big trouble for Israel. It was thought that Israel’s intelligence was good enough to warn about an Iranian bomb before it was finished—and maybe even stop it. In the past, Israel and the U.S. were able to slow down Iran’s bomb plans by destroying their factories and labs, messing up their equipment, and even targeting important scientists.
Things got really intense between Iran and Israel when Iran sent a lot of explosive drones and missiles right at Israel. They did this because earlier in April, there was a bombing at Iran’s embassy in the capital of Syria, Damascus. If Iran decides a nuclear war then it will mean destruction of masses.
