In a major development in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) recently announced that they have killed Mohammed Deif, who was the military leader of Hamas.
And this happened during an airstrike in Gaza this past July.
Lets dive into the details of ongoing Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
On Thursday, the Israeli military announced that an airstrike last month in Khan Yunis, a city in southern Gaza, killed Mohammed Deif, the military leader of Hamas. This news came right after the assassination of Hamas’s political leader, Ismail Haniyeh, in Tehran.
The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) said that on July 13, 2024, their fighter jets attacked an area in Khan Yunis, Gaza.
Mohammed Deif is believed to have played a role in planning the Hamas attack on southern Israel that started the current Gaza war and this conflict has now been ongoing for 300 days.
Mohammed Deif was a key leader in Hamas and had been with the group for 30 years. He helped build their tunnel network and improve their bomb-making skills. For many years, he was one of Israel’s most wanted people because he was believed to be responsible for many deaths from suicide bombings.
Meanwhile, the military said that Mohammed Deif was responsible for starting, planning, and carrying out the attack on October 7th.
And this announcement about Deif’s death happened at the same time as people were gathering in Tehran for the funeral of Haniyeh.

A very large bomb, weighing around 2,000 pounds (900 kilograms), was used near the house where Deif was thought to be hiding with one of his assistants. The explosion created a big crater, according to AFP.
He had been one of Israel’s most wanted people for nearly 30 years and was added to a U.S. list of “international terrorists” in 2015.
The military said that Deif had carried out several attacks against Israel over the years and worked closely with Yahya Sinwar, the leader of Hamas in Gaza.
During the Hamas attack, militants took 251 people captive. Out of those, 111 are still held in Gaza, and 39 of them are reported to be dead. In response, Israel’s military actions have resulted in the deaths of 39,480 people, according to Gaza’s health ministry.
Well, People have different opinions about Deif’s death. Some think it’s a victory for Israel, while others believe it makes the conflict worse.
