In a devastating turn of events that has captured global attention, the Israel-Gaza conflict has erupted into a new phase of violence, with harrowing consequences.

In recent development, Gaza’s civil defense agency reported that on Sunday, an Israeli airstrike targeted two schools in Gaza City, resulting in the deaths of at least 30 people. The schools were being used as shelters by civilians. In contrast, the Israeli military claimed that the airstrikes were aimed at Hamas command centers.
This discrepancy highlights the tension and differing narratives surrounding the incident.

These strikes have raised big worries about the damage to civilian areas and the worsening humanitarian situation in Gaza.

Since July 6, at least 11 schools in Gaza have been hit and resulting in around 150 deaths, according to reports from officials in the area controlled by Hamas.
Meanwhile, Civil defense spokesman Mahmud Bassal informed AFP that the death toll from the bombing of the Hassan Salameh and Al-Nasr schools has increased to 30 people. Additionally, many others have been injured as a result of the attack. Israel’s military confirmed that it carried out the strike on the two schools.

On Saturday, another Israeli strike hit a school compound in Gaza City, killing at least 17 people, according to the civil defense agency.

The Israeli military has frequently accused Hamas of using civilian buildings, such as schools and hospitals, as bases for their operations or to hide their leaders and fighters while Hamas denies these accusations.
The war in Gaza started when Hamas attacked Israel on October 7. This attack resulted in the deaths of 1,197 people, mostly civilians where Hamas took 251 people hostage, with 111 still held in Gaza.

Later, Israel’s military response has resulted in at least 39,583 deaths, according to Gaza’s health ministry, which doesn’t separate civilians from fighters.
This tragic event shows how urgently we need to restart peace talks and address the main problems causing the conflict.
