Months after relations between India-Maldives simmered over derogatory remarks on PM Modi following visit to Lakshadweep, Muizzu Govt on June 02 imposed a ban on Israeli passport holders to prohibit them from visiting Maldives. Govt changed the law to prevent Israelis from entering the country & to establish a subcommittee to oversee the process. The decision by the Maldives government comes amid the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza. The Gaza war was sparked by Hamas’ October 7 attack following which Israel vowed to destroy Hamas and launched a ground offensive. As per Gaza Health Ministry, at least 36,439 people have been killed and 82,627 injured in Gaza since Israel-Hamas war.
