Tensions between Israel and Hezbollah have sharply increased, leading to a serious conflict in the Middle East.
The recent conflict has escalated after weeks of rising tension where Hezbollah and Iran vowed to retaliate for the killing of their leader, Fuad Shukr, which they view as a direct act of war.
Hezbollah, reacting to Shukr’s killing, launched a major drone and rocket attack on Israel, hitting various targets including Iron Dome systems and military positions. They said the military operations will take time to finish.
Later, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu called a security meeting early today. His office announced that Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant has declared a 48-hour state of emergency across the country. This special measure allows the military to impose new restrictions on civilians to help manage the situation.
Since the Gaza war started in October, Israel and Hezbollah have been exchanging fire almost daily along their border. This recent escalation has raised concerns that the conflict might spread into a larger war in Lebanon.
The current escalation started after Hamas’s major attack on southern Israel on October 7 last year, which killed nearly 1,200 people. In response, Israel launched a military campaign in Gaza, resulting in over 40,000 Palestinian deaths, according to Gaza’s health ministry.
