Bihar is leading among key states in the use of NOTA, with 2% of voters choosing to reject all candidates. The highest NOTA votes were cast in Bihar.
NOTA, or None of the Above, allows voters to express their dissatisfaction with all candidates on the ballot. In Bihar, this option has seen a significant increase in use.
The NOTA button was introduced in October 2013, following a Supreme Court order on September 27, 2013. The purpose of this option is to allow voters who do not want to vote for any candidate to make their choice without revealing their decision.
Bihar, which sends 40 members to the Lok Sabha, had 2.07% of its voters choose NOTA. This was the highest among major states in India. Madhya Pradesh followed with 1.41% of voters choosing NOTA.
In Indore, one of the 29 parliamentary segments in the state, there were 218,674 NOTA votes. The Congress party actively promoted NOTA among voters after its candidate, Akshay Kanti Bam, withdrew from the election on April 29 and joined the Bharatiya Janata Party.
