JD(U) which is the second most influential party in the NDA after the Telugu Desam Party, plans to use the 12 seats it has won to negotiate for important positions in the cabinet. They are particularly aiming to secure the prestigious Railways ministry.

Now this time Nitish Kumar is an ace layer Unlike 2019, when the JD(U) won 16 seats but was offered a single ministerial berth, since the BJP was in majority on its own, the 12 seats it managed this time are far more valuable.

Now according to many resources, JD(U) has eye on Railways, Rural Development and Jal Shakti ministries. Other choices could be Transport and Agriculture.

Now let’s talk about the budget then Railways has budget of 2.55 lakh crore rupees, Agriculture has 1.27 lakh crore rupees and Rural has 1.77 lakh crore rupees. With all these 3 ministeries, JD(U) can develop transportation infrastructure, which can boost economic growth and connectivity in Bihar, Kumar’s home state.

On the other hand Rural and Jal shakti minister will focus on improving the living standards and infrastructure in rural areas.

Earlier, Nitish Kumar government in Bihar made a strategic move by publishing the Bihar Caste Census on Gandhi Jayanti. His cabinet requested the Union government to include the increased 65% quota for Other Backward Classes (OBCs), Scheduled Castes (SCs), and Scheduled Tribes (STs) in the Ninth Schedule of the constitution. They also asked for Special Category Status for Bihar to address the challenges revealed by the caste survey.

This means that he might demand NDA to implement the Caste census and special category status for Bihar. With this he is likely to push for key demands. He wants at least four Cabinet positions, early state elections, and more funding for Bihar. He is also expected to ask for more central funds to support the Bihar Laghu Udhyami Yojana. This program, announced in February, aims to give ₹2 lakh to 9.4 million poor families identified in the 2023 socio-economic survey.
