A lot has been going on in the United States, Almost 900 people have been arrested all over the country since April 18, when many were arrested at Columbia University in New York City as the protesters are demanding a ceasefire in Israel’s war on Gaza, which has killed more than 34,000 Palestinians. Thousands of students are calling on dozens of universities to divest from Israel.

Meanwhile, there are many Indian students as well who are participating in the protest and few are detained. Here these students are risking their visa status and their scholariships.

AcCording to reports in ET, there is a student pursuing pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Computer science from UT Austin was detained and spent night in custody this incident caused distress to their parents who reached out in the middle of the night seeking for help.

Infact recently an Indian-origin student Achinthya Sivalingam has been arrested and banned from Princeton University in the US. This action is pending a disciplinary process because Achinthya participated in an unauthorized student-led pro-Palestine encampment protest on campus.

Now there students need to know that they may face various repercussions depending on the circumstances and the policies of their respective universities. THere can include Disciplinary Action, Universities may take disciplinary action against students for participating in unauthorized protests or activities that violate university policies. This could result in warnings, suspension, or or worst case senario get expelled from the institution.

Secondly, they might face scrutiny from immigration authorities or potential visa restrictions if they are involved in activities deemed unlawful.

Infact in some cases, involvement in controversial protests or activism may have implications for students’ future opportunities, such as employment prospects or applications for further education.

The situsation is going worst as collectively Saturday alone, more than 200 protesters were arrested at colleges including Northeastern University in Boston, Arizona State University in Tempe, Indiana University in Bloomington and Washington University in St. Louis.
