The conflict between Russia and Ukraine has intensified dramatically with a recent missile strike that has shocked the world.
A Russian missile strike has hit a military training facility in Poltava, a city in central Ukraine, marking one of the deadliest attacks since the invasion began. The devastating strike has resulted in 51 deaths and over 200 injuries, highlighting the ongoing and severe impact of the conflict on Ukrainian lives.
This is one of the deadliest attacks since Russia began its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, according to Ukraine’s prosecutor general’s office.
President Volodymyr Zelensky reported that early information shows two ballistic missiles struck a military facility and a nearby hospital in Poltava on Tuesday morning. This attack has caused significant damage and loss of life.
He urged the world’s leaders to act, saying that Ukraine urgently needs air defense systems and missiles to protect itself from attacks, rather than having them stored away in warehouses.
Meanwhile, Filip Pronin, the head of the Poltava region’s military administration, shared the latest number of deaths on Telegram. He mentioned that rescue teams are still working through the debris and believe that up to 18 more people might be trapped under the rubble where at least 10 residential buildings were also damaged in Poltava.
While, President Zelensky has asked Ukraine’s Western allies to send more air defense systems to help protect Kyiv. He also urged them to remove any restrictions on using their weapons to strike inside Russia.
He also emphasized that Ukraine urgently needs long-range weapons to defend against Russian attacks. He warned that any delay in getting these weapons means more people will suffer and die.
This attack has drawn a lot of global attention, with many countries and international groups showing support for Ukraine and condemning the strike. The United Nations has called for an investigation to find out who is responsible and to help prevent future attacks that break international law.
