On Monday morning, during the rush hour, Kyiv faced a serious escalation in conflict between Russia & Ukraine. The Ukrainian military had warned about a major Russian missile and drone attack, coming after a night of intense drone strikes that raised concerns of more violence.
And the city was rocked by a series of explosions as tensions in Ukraine reached a new peak.
According to the NDTV reports, The Ukrainian air force said that Russia had 11 big bombers in the sky and that missiles had been fired. Outside Kyiv, reporters heard the sounds of Ukraine’s defenses working to shoot down the missiles.
Meanwhile, The Polish military said on X that Polish and allied planes were put on alert after Russia’s attack, which also hit parts of western Ukraine and areas near the Polish border.
Ukrainians had been anticipating a big Russian missile attack for a while. Last week, the US embassy warned that there was a higher chance of an attack around Ukraine’s Independence Day, which was celebrated on Saturday.
While Ukraine has increased its use of long-range drones to strike back at Russia. This comes in response to Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which began in February 2022.
Andriy Yermak, President Zelensky’s chief of staff, warned on Telegram that Russia’s attacks on Ukraine’s energy could lead to damage to Russian infrastructure in return.
Russia launched two waves of drone attacks earlier on Monday, according to Ukraine’s military.
