After being asked to bat first, India scored 205 with loss of 5 wickets, with captain Rohit Sharma leading the way with a 41-ball 92. In response, Australia could only score 181 with 7 wicket loss.
Thanks to this victory, India finished first in the Super 8 Group 1 standings, with six points from three matches and a Net Run Rate (NRR) of +2.017. India defeated Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Australia in this round. Additionally, the win confirms India’s spot in the second semi-final, where they will face England in Guyana on Thursday, June 27.
Here’s the catch. The ICC has set aside reserve days for the first semi-final and the final in case of rain. However, since the second semi-final is on Thursday (June 27) and the final is on Saturday (June 29), with only one day in between, there is no reserve day for the second semi-final.
In That Case, What Happens if It Rains in Semi-Final 2?
The ICC has allocated an extra 250 minutes to ensure a result in the knockout matches. For the first semi-final and the final, these 250 minutes are divided into:
60 minutes on the scheduled match day, after the regular match time.
190 minutes of extra play on the reserve day.
However, since the second semi-final doesn’t have a reserve day, the ICC has stated that an extra 250 minutes will be added to the second semi-final’s scheduled time if there is a rain delay.
If the match is canceled due to rain, India will go to the final because they finished first in their group during the Super 8 stage, while England finished second in their group.
