In a surprising turn of events, US President Joe Biden on Sunday decided to drop out of the 2024 election race against Donald Trump. This is a big surprise since many thought that he would run again against Trump in the upcoming presidential race.
Biden, who faced numerous challenges during his presidency, from the COVID-19 pandemic to economic turbulence, expressed that it’s time for a new generation of leadership, and extended support to Vice President Kamala Harris to be the new candidate for their party.
Now Lets find out why did Joe Biden exit 2024 US presidential race?
The Democratic Party is now in chaos and needs to find a new candidate before November’s election.
Now, Vice President Kamala Harris is the leading choice.
This surprising decision makes Biden the first president in US history to drop out of an election race so late.
The 81-year-old Democrat said on X that “It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve you as president,
while recovering from COVID, Even though I planned to run for re-election,
I think it’s best for my party and the country if I step down and focus on being President for the rest of my term.”
He also said that he would “talk to the country later this week to explain more about my decision.”
In a bid to show he was up to the job here Biden did several interviews and held a big press conference where he answered many questions.
However, he made more mistakes, like calling Kamala Harris “Vice President Trump.
While many people in his own party, including actor George Clooney and former president Barack Obama, called for him to step down
This led to his decision to leave the race and the decision came right after Biden got COVID,
which forced him to stop campaigning and stay in isolation.
Meanwhile, he is now among a small group of US presidents who have chosen to step down after just one term.
The last president to do this was Lyndon Johnson in 1968, a year also filled with political unrest and violence.
As we get closer to the 2024 election, the political scene is more unpredictable than ever.
