Donald Trump is heading towards a likely election rematch with Joe Biden in November, but this time around he’s juggling campaigning with some potentially legal battles.
Trump is the first former president in US history to be criminally charged, now faces dozens of charges across four separate cases.Trump is in more legal trouble besides the criminal cases. He’s also dealing with civil lawsuits connected to his business. Some big legal questions, like whether he can be prosecuted, still need to be answered in court.
But let me tell you that, Neither a criminal conviction nor a prison sentence would affect Trump’s eligibility for office but what happens if the jury convicts Trump and the judge imposes a sentence before the November election? Can trump still be the president if convicted, well the answer to this question is YES.
The US Constitution only requires that presidents be at least 35 years old and US citizens who have lived in the country for 14 years. Neither a criminal conviction nor a prison sentence would affect Trump’s eligibility for office. In theory, he could be sworn in from jail, prison or home confinement if he were to win the election after being convicted and sentenced.
In the hush money case, Trump couldn’t pardon himself because he’s accused of breaking state laws, not federal ones. The president’s power to pardon only covers federal crimes.
Trump has turned the four criminal cases against him into a way to raise money for his campaign. He says they’re part of a political plot against him. Last year, his campaign got a lot more donations after he was charged.
Now talking about the charges then Trump faces charges in Georgia and Washington for trying to change the results of the 2020 election. He’s also charged in Florida for how he handled secret documents when he left his job. We’re not sure if any of these cases will go to trial before the November 5th election but what we know is battle is still on and it will be very interesting to see, who holds the edge, for more such videos do follow India.com’s international affairs.
