In a surprising twist, the United States has bought Soviet-era combat planes from a country that’s close to Russia, and they got them for a remarkably low price.

Each plane cost less than $20,000, which is a super low price for the US military. The United States has supposedly bought 81 old Soviet-era combat planes from Kazakhstan. Kazakhstan wanted to update its air fleet, so they put up for auction a total of 117 Soviet-era fighter and bomber planes, like MiG-31 interceptors, MiG-27 fighter bombers, MiG-29 fighters, and Su-24 bombers from the 1970s and 1980s

The sale was priced at $2.26 million, making it an average of $19,300 per aircraft. This caught the attention of the US, which bought 81 of these old warplanes, as reported by the Ukrainian Telegram channel Insider UA.

The reason for the US buying these planes hasn’t been revealed yet. However, some people are guessing they might be planning to use them in Ukraine, where they still use similar aircraft.

The sale, which apparently involved offshore companies, is interesting because Ukraine relies on old Soviet weapons. The planes the US bought could be used for spare parts or strategically placed as decoys at airfields.

Kazakhstan used to have a close relationship with Russia, its former Soviet ally. But things have changed, especially since Russia invaded Ukraine. Now, Kazakhstan is getting closer to Western countries, which has upset some people in Russia.

As Kazakhstan improves its military strength, its increasing involvement with Western nations shows a change from its old connections with Moscow.

The way Kazakhstan works with Western countries is changing. They’re making deals about trade, education, protecting the environment, and sharing minerals. This shows how Kazakhstan is handling the tricky situation with nearby countries like Russia, China, Afghanistan, and Iran.
