Ghazipur: A 22-day old baby girl was found abandoned in a wooden box floating in the Ganga river in Ghazipur district on Wednesday. A local boatman Gullu Chahudhary, spotted the newborn after he heard her cries near the Dadri Ghat. When he opened the box, he was shocked to see the baby girl wrapped in a dupatta. The police were informed and the baby was taken to the Asha Jyoti Kendra and then a hospital for check-up. The baby has now been named ‘Ganga’. According to a NDTV report, the infant will go through a medical examination and efforts are underway to find the parents, said a police official.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced that the Uttar Pradesh government will take the full responsibility of the child and will ensure its proper upbringing. The CM also praised the boatman who saved the life of a newborn girl and said that he has presented a unique example of humanity.
“As a token of gratitude, he will be benefited by all eligible government schemes. The UP government will make arrangements for the upbringing of the child,” the Chief Minister said in a tweet in Hindi.
District Magistrate Mangala Prasad Singh and other officials visited the hospital to enquire about the health of the infant. Thanking Chaudhary for saving the life of the girl, the DM directed officials to provide a new boat to him.
Meanwhile, Chaudhary has expressed his desire to raise the child.
