Let us discover what happened this day in history around the world. On this day in 1919, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi had ordered a general strike against British Empire. He ended the Salt March by breaking the British law. In 1917, the United States declared war on Germany which marked the beginning of World War I. In 1973, NASA launched Pioneer 11 spacecraft to study the asteroid belt, the environment around Jupiter and Saturn, solar wind and cosmic rays. In 1199, King Richard I of England died from an infection following the removal of an arrow from his shoulder. 6th April 1919: Mahatma Gandhi orders a General Strike

Mahatma Gandhi and his followers, in protest of the salt tax levied by the British Empire, ended their Salt March and Mahatma Gandhi manufactured salt from sea water breaking the British law establishing a monopoly on salt manufacture. They marched for 240 miles for 24 days. Gandhi led the march from Sabarmati Ashram to the coastal village of Dandi (now Gujarat). Gandhi, after making the salt at Dandi, he continued walking southward along the coast, making salt and addressing meetings on the way.

6th April 1917: Beginning of World War I

President Woodrow Wilson asked a special joint session of the United States Congress for a declaration of war against the German Empire. The United States declared War on Germany which marked the beginning of World War I. The declaration by the United States was against Germany’s renewed policy of unrestricted submarine warfare that it had abandoned in 1915. According to their new policy, all ships trading with Britain, including those of neutral countries such as the United States would be targeted for their submarines and would be sunk without warning.

6th April 1973: Launch of Pioneer 11 spacecraft

Pioneer spacecraft, Pioneer 11 (also known as Pioneer G) is a 259-kilogram robotic space probe that was launched by NASA on April 6, 1973, to study the asteroid belt, the environment around Jupiter and Saturn, solar wind and cosmic rays. Pioneer 11 became the second of five artificial objects to achieve the escape velocity that was allowed to leave the Solar System. Due to power constraints and the vast distance to the probe, the last routine contact with the spacecraft was on September 30, 1995.
