The name is enough to suggest that it is time to ‘break-the-fast’. As you sleep for 7-8 hours without food, your stomach is empty and sometimes, you get hunger pangs. But due to hectic schedules, most of us skip the most important meal of the day, BREAKFAST! It’s not advisable to start the day without breakfast. If you don’t have time to cook healthy, just have a glass of milk. Add some cornflakes to it and voila! Quick breakfast. Alternatively, you could also carry whole wheat bread,  parathas, fruits and eat on the way. Always remember to eat light, filling and healthy breakfast which will last you for the day. 2) Crack the Nut!

Everyone has these hunger cravings right? How do you calm your growling stomach and grab a bite in between work hours? Stuff your tiffin with a healthy dose of fruits, dry fruits and nuts. They are high on fibre and low on calories. Make a healthy fruit salad the night before and stuff it in your bag the next day. It is nutritious, healthy and easy to make.

3) Go for the Healthier Alternative

So you have an hour to go before your lecture/meeting begins and lunch is a must. Choose the healthier alternative instead of the usual greasy fare. Head for idli and dosa with sambhar as its light & healthy too. Opt for brown bread sandwiches and frankies over oily rice based dishes or pizza and pasta junk. Save some fat!

4) Drink lots of water

Most of the times our body misunderstands thirst for hunger. Drink lots of water. That will keep your body temperature regulated, keep the body processes smoothly functioning and keeps one satiated too. So the next time you feel hungry, drink like a camel!

5) Best of Junk

There is some function, some party or some get together and the menu is plonked with junk, calories and dripping in fat? No worries, make the best of the junk! Choose popcorn over samosa, banana chips over potato wafers and fruit juices over soft drinks. And hit the dance floor to burn off the calories.

6) Watch out!

In a country like India, food options are largely oil and fat loaded. Every food item is loaded with 100 things that can make you look bloated in an instant! Watch over your food! Tell the canteen guy to avoid the fattening layers of cheese on your pizza or don’t drizzle ghee/butter on your parathas. Its still not the most healthy food item on the list but you have avoided looking like a potato!

7) Take the stairs

Climbing the stairs is the most important definition of fitness. Climbing those 5 floors is enough to put one into a tizzy. The next time ditch the elevator and take the stairs and see yourself fit into your favourite pair of jeans easily.
