After a brief lull post FIFA World Cup 2014, the search engine giant Google has come up with yet another spectacular Doodle. Commemorating the 96th birth anniversary of South African President Nelson Mandela, Google has compiled some of his famous quotes in a creative travelogue of his life. The Google Doodle gives a fresh look and comes at a time when netizens had no doodles for a few days after the FIFA World Cup 2014 got over.
It is a well known fact that Nelson Mandela was the first black executive of South Africa and served in the prestigious post of President from 1994 to 1999. Nelson Mandela was fondly called as ‘Madiba’ by his supporters. His life was a rocky one, as he was arrested for the conspiracy to overthrow the state in 1962. Nelson Mandela was sentenced to life imprisonment and was released from the jail in 1990.

The web-giant Google on July 18 celebrated Nelson Mandela’s 96th birth anniversary in its trademark style; with a ‘Doodle’. The alphabets G O O G L E in Friday’s doodle are of little importance as only the middle ‘O’ is depicting the picture of Nelson Mandela with a frame of flowers. Once you click on the doodle, a splendid doodle sets off.
The Google doodle takes you through different times of Nelson Mandela’s life since his birth. The first slide depicts a South African village, and from there a short-yet-beautiful journey begins. The doodle is filled with quotes from Nelson Mandela’s biography, The Long Walk to Freedom. The doodle carries along with lovely quotes, with the first slide reading, ‘No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin or his background or his religion’.

The much loved President of South Africa was also called ‘Tata’ (Father of the Nation) by his supporters. Nelson Mandela died on December 5, 2013 at the age of 95 succumbing to respiratory infection.
