Today, India is gearing up for 9-minute challenge where they are supposed to light earthen lamps, light candles and can even switch on their phone’s flashlight at 9 PM today for 9 minutes. The challenge was proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a gesture of solidarity  to end the ‘darkness’ of the novel coronavirus. One user tweeted, “A humble request to you all. Earlier today, PM Modi and Home Minister took to Twitter to remind citizens to switch off the lights for 9 minutes and 9 pm. While Modi tweeted, “9pm-9 minutes”, Amit Shah wrote, “tonight at 9 o’clock nine minutes”.

Earlier on April 3, the Prime Minister had urged 130 crore to light lamps, candles or flash mobile or torch light for nine minutes at their homes from 9 pm on Sunday to display the country’s “collective resolve” to defeat the coronavirus.
