Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation on Thursday and urged citizens to not step out of their homes unless necessary for a few weeks. He also announced ‘Janata Curfew’, in which he asked all citizens to stay home between 7 am to 9 pm on Sunday, March 22. He also urged the people to stand in their balcony or house main doors and clap as a sign of respect for emergency workers who are working despite the pandemic and risking their lives. During the 30 minutes speech, Modi said, “During this curfew, we shall neither leave our homes nor get onto the streets and refrain from roaming about in our societies or areas. Only those associated with emergency and essential services may leave their homes.”

Of the total 271 cases reported, at least 196 are active cases of COVID-19 disease. 23 people have recovered from the disease while four people died. The figure also includes 32 foreign citizens. Maharashtra remained as worst hit state with total 63 cases and one casualty. After Maharashtra, Kerala has highest number of confirmed cases. The state has so far 28 cases.

PM Narendra Modi has requested to take precautions and not panic. He further asked to avoid unnecessary travels.

Earlier today Delhi Chief Minister appealed everyone to discontinue morning walk aand asked to stay home. He also mentioned that if necessary, he will announce a lockdown for betterment and safety.
