Airports Check-in System Crash Leaving People Stranded Worldwide – Here’s How Twitter Reacted
The social media has gone berserk after airlines at Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra airports were cancelled and other international airports London, Auckland, Singapore, Tokyo and Hong Kong also poorly hit.
Thousands of air passengers were grounded on September 28 across the globe after computer check-in systems crashed. Travellers have reported facing problems at more than 100 airports including London’s Heathrow and Gatwick, Washington DC’s Reagan Airport, Charles de Gaulle in Paris, Zurich, Melbourne, Johannesburg and Changi in Singapore. The check-in system of 125 airlines that are down is run by Amadeus Altea. With flights delayed and hundreds of thousands of passengers stranded at airports, the situation has become quite chaotic. Twitter is having a field day in the wake of such an unpleasant and disorderly scenario.
Travellers were in for a rude shock on Thursday after they faced delays at check-in counters. Airports around the world faced a massive disruption of the check-in system controlled by a single company, Amadeus Altea crashed. The Spanish travel technology provider confirmed there’s a ‘network issue’ causing the disruption but insisted ‘services are gradually being restored’. They provide services to 64% of the Star Alliance flights, 75% of One World and 53% of the Sky Team, including BA, AirFrance, KLM and Lufthansa. Flyers with Qatar Airways and Qantas flights are also adversely affected and have reported issues.
People are tweeting images of huge queues at the airports. Some are venting out their frustration at how the system failure of a single technology provider has brought travellers of 125 flights to a halt. Users are also posting screenshots of them unable to book new flights or even check on the status of their existing itinerary. The company issued a statement: “Amadeus can confirm that our systems are recovered and are now functioning normally. During the morning, we experienced a network issue that caused disruption to some of our systems. As a result of the incident, customers experienced disruption to certain services. Our technical teams took immediate action to identify the cause of the issue and mitigate against the impact on customers. Amadeus regrets any inconvenience caused to customers.”
