Apple finally launched its own digital assistant in the form of with the smart speaker, HomePod. Powered by Apple’s intelligent personal assistant, Siri, the HomePod is being marketed as a speaker instead of a digital assistant but will be in competition with Google Home and Amazon Echo. The digital assistant had a unique cylindrical design with a dented centre and was launched at the 2017 Apple Worldwide Developers Conference. As soon as the designs of the Apple HomePod was unveiled Twitter was full of jokes and memes about the appearance, pricing and functioning of the smart home speaker.
The Apple HomePod is covered in mesh and is said to have the power to rock the house. The small speaker comes digital assistant. The music system has a bulky centre and is said to have seven different tweeters and the huge bass woofer that sits right in the middle. The device is rumoured to be able to control a smart home, play music as well as answer queries using the famous command, “Hey Siri”. The speaker is trying to turn the computer assistant, Siri into a musicologist and the device will be able to detect the commands using the internalised speaker and same processor chip as the iPhone.
Priced at 349 USD, the HomePod will be available in white and space grey, and the company will begin shipping the product in December this year. While Apple is trying to stand out in the digital assistant area with its high-end speaker system, the products will have all battle out to reign the smart homes by the end of this year. While loyalists were busy praising the latest addition of the manufacturing giant, others could not help but joke about the looks and pricing of Apple HomePod. The Apple HomePod will be in competition with Google and Amazon’s digital assistants, however, it has an upper hand of loyalty from the brand lovers. In addition to the HomePod, the 2017 Apple Worldwide Developers Conference saw the unveiling of the new operating system, iOS 11, iPad Pro 2 launch and the release of Apple’s latest and advanced iMac, which was priced at 4999 USD (Rs 322110). The Apple HomePod will begin shipping from December 2017 and is bound to be an exciting addition to the life of an Apple lover.
