Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the former prime minister of India and one of the most renowned political figures of the nation, passed away on Thursday. He was 93. As per the press release by AIIMS on Wednesday, the BJP stalwart was put on life support system after his condition “worsened” in the last 24 hours.

93-year-old Atal Bihari Vajpayee, who served as the PM in three non-consecutive terms was undergoing treatment at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi for the last nine weeks. The former prime minister was admitted to the hospital on June 11 with a kidney tract infection, urinary tract infection, low urine output and chest congestion.

Other than his exemplary political capabilities, Vajpayee was also known for his poetry skills. He had written and published many poems in Hindi.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee emerged as a miraculous poet, an influencing and a resonating orator and an insatiable reader.  He was even well known for his oratory skills as many of his speeches influenced people to a great extent.

Vajpayee got educated at Victoria College (now Laxmibai College) in Gwalior and DAV College  Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. He held an MA in Political Science and had many literary, artistic and scientific accomplishments to his credit. He edited a Hindi monthly Rashtradharma, Hindi weekly Panchjanya and the dailies Swadesh and Veer Arjun. His published works include “Meri Sansadiya Yatra” (in four volumes), “Meri Ikkyavan Kavitayen”, “Sankalp Kaal”, “Shakti-se-Shanti”, “Four Decades in Parliament” (speeches in three volumes) and many more.
