India is all set to celebrate the 68th Republic Day on January 26, 2017. Republic day has always been widely celebrated with parades and flag hoisting that brings out our patriotic side. It is customary for brands to celebrate this feeling and advertise it in any way possible. While most companies chose to wish their customers, there are a few brands that have given us a story to revive our feeling of patriotism with ads. There have been innumerable ads on Republic Day and Independence Day which make us feel more patriotic or just leave us feeling warm and happy. We vividly remember the cute ad by Manyavar with the over-enthusiastic child who dressed up as Mahatma Gandhi. There have been various such ads over time. As we get ready to celebrate the 68th Republic Day, here is a look at three best TV ads on Republic Day! Republic Day 2017: Rain may play spoilsport in Delhi on January 26
1. Happy Republic Day Ad by GM Switches
GM Switches released a heart-warming Republic Day ad last year which had an adorable child running around with our national flag. The ad has a surprising twist in the end which played a huge role in making an emotional connect with the audience. The ad begins with a young boy offering the Indian National Flag to everyone on the streets. The people on streets take the child to be a street hawker and avoid taking the flag until an aged man accepts the flag and offers to pay the child. The innocent child replies that he is merely wishing everyone a “Happy Republic Day”! Republic Day 2017: How to legally dispose of soiled or torn national flag
2. #FlagOffChange – Happy Republic Day by Videocon Group
The #FlagOffChange was an initiative by the Videocon Group which began in 2016. The ad shows the value of the Indian National Flag and the need to instill the feelings of patriotism again in government servants. The ad is set up in the background of a government office where an old man is denied his retirement payments as the official asks him to “increase the weight of his file” (by adding some money inside). The ad shows the official using various known slangs for bribes indicating what the old school teacher needs to do for fastening the process. The retired teacher, in turn, keeps a flag inside the flag and manages to bring an ounce of shame on the government official’s face!
3. The rebirth of INS Vikrant by Bajaj V
Bajaj V which was one of the most awaited bikes last year was unveiled in a phenomenal ad last year, around republic day. The ad captured the history of INS Vikranta, the ship whose scrape was used to build the bike. Named after the 1971 Indo-Pak war hero INS Vikrant, the company strategically released an ad which captured the patriots and increased the buzz around the launch. The bike was launched on February 1, 2016 and the event was webcast on the internet.
