Bakra-Eid or Eid al-Adha one of the greatest celebration celebrated by the Muslims all over the world. Eid al-Adha falls on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah. This festival is also known as ‘the feast of sacrifice’ according to Arabic and it honors the willingness of Hazrat Ibrahim who obeyed God’s command and went ahead to sacrifice his son Ismail. The Myth says that just like Ibrahim, all followers of Allah are expected to sacrifice something which means a lot to them. Bakra-Eid is all about sacrificing a goat or bakri in Urdu and then dividing its meat into three parts: first part i.e the one-third share is shared with the family, second part is shared with relatives, friends and the last remaining part is distributed in poor and needy people. In short Eid is all about giving and sacrificing. The distribution and sharing of happiness shows one of the noble acts of Ibrahim. Eid al-Adha starts with a Sunnah prayer which includes two rakats namaz followed with sermon (khutbah). It is said that Eid is the day where one can thank the Almighty for his good life and also share his happiness with the deprived people. Muslim people can slaughter a goat, sheep, camel or any other four-legged animal within those auspicious days.
